Gabrielle Giffords’ personality (gcttrends.blogspot.com) - who survived an murder attempt in January, will attend Friday’s liftoff of space shuttle Endeavour at Kennedy Space Center, her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, tells CBS’ Katie Couric.
“I’ve met with her doctors, her neurosurgeon and her doctors. And they’ve given us go-ahead to take her down to the launch,” Kelly tells Couric. Kelly will command the shuttle mission.
“What was her reaction when she got the final go-ahead?” Couric asks.
“I think she said, ‘amazing,’ and she pumped her fist,” Kelly says.
The conference airs Monday on the “CBS Evening News” at 6:30 p.m. on WKMG-Channel 6.

Couric: “There’s some very excellent news, if you can call it that…because the right hemisphere controls sort of your cognitive function. Your ability to relate to other people. Your personality.

Her left side is fine, but she's only been able to use her right side on a limited basis. According to the Arizona Republic, Giffords is still struggling with longer sentences, mostly sticking with shorter declarative phrases like "I miss Tucson." each day she does rehab and works on being paid used to her new left-handedness.
Top-level managers insist the latest disturbance will not have an effect on the launch or the two-week flight, a particularly complicated mission featuring four spacewalks.
"I've talked to Mark extensively on it, and he is absolutely focused on the mission and ready to go," held shuttle program manager John Shannon.
Endeavour astronaut Mike Fincke said Kelly has set a good exemplar for the crew, all veteran space fliers. Kelly will be creation his fourth shuttle flight.
"He's able to compartmentalize and he's also able to count on us as his crewmates, while he's dealing with the things that he wishes to deal with," Fincke said. "Mark doesn't need to worry. The mission going to get done."
And, of course, Giffords herself is an insight.
"She's on a path to recuperation," said crewmate Andrew Feustel, "and that is, I think, allowing us all to just carry on and get done what we need to get a hold done.
